What kinds of jobs are available? Employment at A-Way Express Couriers almost always begins with work as a courier. Other positions, (for instance on phones or reception, as dispatchers, or in the office), are usually filled by people who have already been working at A-Way as couriers.
What qualifications do I need to apply for a job?
Couriers:
If you
- have a mental health challenge
- speak, read and write English fairly well
- can use the public transit system
Then we may have a part-time position open for you as a courier. Most couriers work 2-3 days per week, on one of three daily shifts between 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Phones/Reception:

- have a mental health challenge
- are friendly, patient, and customer-service oriented
- have excellent command of the English language

Dispatchers:
If you
- have a mental health challenge
- are an extremely organized person
- can control stress when under pressure

Then we may have a position for you as a dispatcher or a relief dispatcher between 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Office Staff:

- have a mental health challenge
- have a good command of English
- have basic computer skills
Then we may have a position for you in the office, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
What kind of experience is necessary? No experience is necessary. Many people come to A-Way with no previous employment history. We provide training and orientation for all positions.
Who can apply? Anyone with a mental health challenge can apply for work at A-Way.
The prospective employee should apply on their own behalf. We do not accept applications from family members, doctors or social workers on behalf of others.
What are the pay levels? Couriers are paid by commission. That is, a courier receives a proportion of the cost of each delivery they make, so how much a courier makes depends on how many deliveries they make, and what those deliveries cost the customer.
Couriers also receive a free Metropass (TTC bus and subway pass) each month from A-Way. Trainee couriers receive a Day Pass for the days they are working, until they have completed 1 month (or 8 shifts), after which they too receive a Metropass
How do I apply? To inquire about employment, or to get on the waiting list, contact the Personnel Manager, Jay Currie, or call 416-424-2266.
Is there a waiting list? Because of the high demand for employment, we often have a waiting list. When this is the case, we put a new name on the waiting list and call the person to come in for an interview when their name comes up.
If you are on the waiting list and want to know how long you may have to wait, please call our Personnel Manager at 416-424-2266
